THE MESSAGE:
TONY TODAY:
Today, most of us recognize that there are limits to the exercise of free will. There are many things, both external and internal, that are beyond one’s control. The media makes life complicated; hence, the ability to make changes in our lives is not a simple matter. We are creatures of habit many of which are unconscious.
Researchers at Duke University calculated that more than 40 percent of the actions we take are the result of habits, not actual, conscious decisions. In the business world, one can change the habits of employees through implementing a “Policy Directive”; for example, a series of scripts to deal with irate customers.
It is possible to change some of your habits through a strategy of substituting an action for an urge. This method has been proven to be unreliable.
If you want to change your life it is necessary to focus on larger issues. Open your mind and soul to the plight of others. You can achieve wonderful things through a commitment to knowledge, understanding and compassion. Replace your ignorance and fear of different cultures and ideas by embracing humanity. Do no wrong!
For many, the struggle to be a good person or to change unhealthy habits is very real. Talking to a friend or close family member may be a good way to gain some insight into how your behavior has affected others. Additionally, if the issue of being a good person is something that you struggle with, but want to achieve, seeking the advice of a counselor or therapist is a great way to discuss your feelings and learn ways to apply good practices.
Research shows that online therapy platforms are effective resources for people who want help with a variety of mental health concerns, including those related to issues of morality, decency, or goodness.
