EFFORT AND MOTIVATION: BLOG #2261: AUG 28,2020

THE COMEBACK:

BLAH BLAH BLAH....GET OFF YOUR PHONE!

GRAMPA! I WOULD UNPLUG YOUR LIFE SUPPORT TO RECHARGE MY PHONE.

THE MESSAGE:

Everyone knows that motivation is a key to achieving a goal. It may come to us in a business meeting, a meeting with friends, a book we are reading, a news article from a trusted source (good luck with that!), a charity drive or some other inspiration. I believe that, for the individual, the most relevant form of motivation arises from the need of a family or some other loved one.

A person may be skeptical of a plea issued by some selfish politician (aren’t most of them!) that may cause one to turn her or him off. However, the tragic situations occurring in our everyday life may stir us to action.

For example  reports and stories of starving children  in parts of Africa,  reckless bombings that kill innocent civilians, or families seeking an escape from an untenable existence.

Do terrorists see roadside bombs as the only way to change the status quo?

We see these situations, almost daily, that arouse in us a motivation to see improvements in our world. What is lacking? Is hatred or indifference preventing  an effort on the part of world leaders to make changes? Is it a lack of cooperation or a divide in political realities? Is it jealousy or greed? Why is there an inability for human beings to empathize and get along with different entities and cultures? It is understandable that certain dictatorships make change by the people difficult if not impossible. But I have yet to understand why people in democracies or socialist republics are powerless to have their leaders work for worthwhile changes?

WHERE IS THE EFFORT?

TONY TODAY:

HOW CAN I HELP?

All of us are put on earth to contribute and make a difference to the world in our own unique way. It need not be anything spectacular. It just needs to be something you do with the intention of doing good.

  3. 2. Start your own project to promote change and support for better schools or retirement homes.
  4. 3.Volunteer and encourage a worthy community project.
  5. 4. Donate to a legitimate charity with your time and or money.

  7. 6, Reflect on your own ideas and spread the word.
  8. 7........Imagine.

TYPES OF MOTIVATION

1, Extrinsic Motivation

We perform certain behaviours because someone who has power over us tells us to do so. This application of authority commonly occurs in sports, advertising, unionized systems, political systems etc.   It may have a negative effect on initiative and self expression. This common motivation system works on the principle of using an extrinsic reward, 'Buy and command’, where  obedience and conformity are the norm.

2. Intrinsic Motivation

This type of motivation is encouraged by leaders with expertise and charisma. In a work  environment  people are intrinsically motivated by working for an inspiring leader or in areas where they have a personal interest.

3. Internal Motivation

Some motivation is internalized. The distinctive aspect of this is that if a task or assignment is  not done effectively, then the person feels the tension of guilt. This style of leadership depends on the inspiration of the leader or the values of the particular person.

4. Realized Motivation

This  motivation is often referred to as procrastination. It occurs where a person knows that something needs doing but has not yet decided to make the effort to do anything about it.

The “Windy City” name has nothing to do with Chicago weather
