THE MESSAGE:
Can there be any doubt that our society deliberately targets the elderly and preys on their insecurities? Remember one of the greed merchants. Bernie Madoff, who was arrested in 2017 for his Ponzi Scam. He used his twisted mind to extort a few thousand seniors out of large amounts of money. Madoff, 81 years old, has petitioned the Justice Department asking President Trump to reduce his 150-year prison sentence. Madoff’s prosecutor promptly referred to the request as, "the very definition of chutzpah.”
Today big pharma companies use their advertising dollars to bilk comparatively small amounts of money from millions of seniors. For example, big pharma ALLERGAN, repeats an annoying Viberza ad, which is a prescription drug for treating irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea.Others promote products that cater to ailments ranging from incontinence to loss of hearing. The elderly are tempted with motorized chairs, stair lifts, risk free investments, pain free existence and better sex.
TONY TODAY:
We elect governments who continue to tax senior citizens who have contributed to government coffers for sixty or seventy years. Canadian seniors earning less than 75K annually should pay no tax. What is left today? You either pay or cheat.
These Seniors should be:
- Exempted from Sales taxes.
- Given free access to public transit.
- Given % deductions at grocery stores.
- Protected from scam phone calls.
- Provided with a TV channel giving them info about threats, news, updates, educational and suitable drama programs.
We tend to shuffle our elderly into today’s institutions and watch as they become less and less capable and more and more lost. Covid-19 has claimed many lives in these residences.
It makes sense to me that our tax dollars should create complete communities for seniors that cater to total health, reading, current events, entertainment, friendship, some group travel, family visits, physical fitness and regular nursing attention. These are the very people who helped build our generation over the years!
