THE MESSAGE:
Al Gore claims that Climate change is a moral issue. I agree totally but we need to look carefully at the real morality of charlatans, do-gooders and hypocrites of the world who assuage their conscience by adopting the agenda of the 'man-made climate change police'.
The climate scare spreads misinformation in tiny packages like a virus. Leonardo DiCaprio’s documentary film, The 11th Hour, is just another vector for spreading the virus. Notwithstanding his appointment as the UN Climate Ambassador, he should stick to acting in fictional films.
It has become politically correct to hype man-made climate change. The most recent computer models are backing off the claim that fossil fuels are causing global warming; however, many celebrities and world leaders along with charitable foundations and gullible followers eagerly continue to spout this doctrine.
The recent protest by people who believe that man is more powerful than nature resulted in world-wide marches in big cities. They left their garbage behind in New York City.
According to NASA satellites and all ground-based temperature measurements, global warming ceased in the late 1990s. Coincidentally CO2 levels have risen almost 10 percent since 1997. These facts contradict all CO2-based climate models upon which global-warming concerns are founded.
Rates of sea-level rise have remained small and are even slowing, over recent decades. Tide gauges for these decades have provided data that averages about 1 millimetre per year; far less than what the alarmists suggested.
Satellites show that a greater area of Antarctic sea ice exists now than any time since space-based measurements began in 1979. The ice caps are not melting.
Scientific based reports from reputable International groups concluded that there has been no significant increase in either the frequency or intensity of extreme weather events in the modern era. Recent storms have been devastating for sure, but they are not indicative of any new trend.
Still there are activists who claim that most scientists believe in 'Man-made Global Warming'. In Toronto, last winter, it was difficult to see the effects of any global warming. I am anxious to see what this winter will bring.
HERE ARE SOME EXCERPTS FROM MARGARET WENTE'S ARTICLE IN THE TORONTO GLOBE & MAIL TUESDAY SEPT 23, 2014.
China alone now accounts for a whopping 28 per cent of the world’s C02 emissions – twice as much as the U.S. Over the past five years, China’s emissions increased more than the rest of the world combined; on a per-capita basis, it now out-pollutes the EU. India produces less than 7 per cent of the world’s total emissions, but most of its people still live in a state of energy starvation. India’s most pressing health problem isn’t climate change. It’s indoor pollution from dung fires.
The developing world is now responsible for nearly 60 per cent of global emissions. Even if the developed nations make substantial cuts to CO2, over the coming decades emissions growth in the developing world will dwarf their efforts. Yet in every interview, excerpt and review I’ve read about her book, Ms. Klein has nothing to say on this subject. Talk about denial! No book on climate that ignores elementary facts like these can be counted as a serious work.
For activists, climate change is a simplistic and self-centred morality tale that pits our greed and wickedness against the Utopia of a kinder, gentler, fairer, better world. In fact, climate change is a complex and fiendishly hard problem, with huge uncertainties about what lies ahead and even greater uncertainties about effective policies to address it. The activists should do themselves a favour, and grow up.
COMMENT BY P.G.B. TRAEP ON WENTE'S ARTICLE:
Oh, Margaret,
The barking mad villagers in the Kingdom of Klein will be sharpening the tines of their pitchforks and soaking their torches in environmentally-friendly combustibles as they prepare to descend on your fortress in full cry. Be not afraid. Sometimes the truth hurts, but must
be spoken.
Thank you infinitely.
THE ECONOMICS
The cost of the European Union’s goal of a 20 percent reduction in CO2 emissions below 1990 levels by 2020, is estimated at nearly $100 billion a year by 2020, or more than $7 trillion over the course of this century.
In the USA, the costs of feeding the climate-change “monster” are staggering. According to the Congressional Research Service, from 2001 to 2014 the US government spent $131 billion on projects meant to combat human-caused climate change, plus $176 billion for incentives for anti-CO2 energy initiatives. Federal anti-climate-change spending is now running at $11 billion a year, plus tax breaks of $20 billion a year. That adds up to more than double the $14.4 billion worth of wheat produced in the United States in 2013.
I ask “Qui bono?”,"As a benefit to whom?"
Folks like Al Gore, David Suzuki, DeCaprio and their ilk are able to feel better because they can claim that they are protecting the planet for future generations. NEVER MIND THAT THEIR EXHORBITANT LIFE STYLES EXPOSE THEIR HYPOCRISY AND NEVER MIND THE CURRENT PLIGHT OF TODAY’S UNDER-FED MASSES. What is to become of their world?
Many people are wasting money on these ‘Green” programs that will result in extremely negligible results; money that could be used to provide food and shelter to the starving and homeless in so many poverty stricken countries.
"Nevertheless, there is another threat on the horizon. I see this threat in environmentalism which is becoming a new dominant ideology, if not a religion. Its main weapon is raising the alarm and predicting the human life endangering climate change based on man-made global warming." - Vaclav Klaus
