Thomas Malthus, the English economist and demographer is best known for his theory that population growth will always tend to outrun the food supply. He observed that an increase in a nation's food production improved the well-being of the populace, but the improvement was temporary because it led to population growth, which in turn restored the original per capita production level.
In other words, mankind had a propensity to utilize abundance for population growth rather than for maintaining a high standard of living.
Populations had a tendency to grow until the lower class suffered hardship and a greater susceptibility to famine and disease. Malthus saw population growth as being inevitable whenever conditions improved, thereby precluding real progress towards a utopian society.
Today's politicians are certainly not convinced that Malthusian Theory is indeed something that societies must deal with in order to have effective government.
Our Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, seems to be more concerned with his popularity abroad than with figuring out what is best for Canada. Wherever he goes or whenever he speaks, he appears to be trapped between romanticism and realism.
I love Canada and cannot imagine a better country in which to reside and raise a family; however, I must say that I am of the opinion that the Canadian Senate is a total waste of time and money and the legislature is like a child's playground for some members to ridicule and accuse other members of perceived mistakes rather than concentrating on solid recommendations and solutions.

The province of Ontario is in the process of recovering from the disasters of the Liberal Party's Green Energy Act. It seems that Premier Doug Ford is on the right path by lowering hydro costs, encouraging employment growth and downsizing government in the largest urban area.
In Toronto we have a mayor, John Tory, who is a man of integrity, wisdom and courage. I believe he would increase his effectiveness if he would publicly support Ford's decision to reduce the number of counsellors for the city.
O CANADA
If one takes the time to examine the federal government approach to some aboriginal communities, the results are not in any way acceptable. Grant monies are absorbed by friends of the chief in the name of tribal administration salaries.
British Columbia and Quebec, who have opposed pipelines from Alberta's oil sands, want to keep the concern for Canada as a whole on the back burner. It is a no brainer that modern pipelines would be much safer than rail transport. Canada has an abundance of land and a need for more job opportunities.
The party system of government certainly does not lend its organization or agendas to the promotion of democracy. Their main concerns are to attain and maintain power! It would be far more productive to share ideas and support the greater good through cooperation and accord.
