PUNISHMENT; BLOG #2286; FRI FEB 19,2021

THE COMEBACK::

WHICH ONE OF YOU TOLD THE BOSS I WAS DUMB?

SHE DID!

SHE DID!

SHE DID!

I SHOULD HAVE!

THE MESSAGE:

Are some people, parents, teachers, authors, journalists, prosicuters and judges overly  concerned with the concept ‘Cruel and Unusual Punishment' when faced with the reality of a heinous criminal act? Is it a just conclusion to alway make the punishment for evil choices fit the transgression?

TONY TODAY:

It is surely a difficult decision to make when considering a punishment that is just and deserving of the guilty person. Some questions arise that make the decision so taxing and complex:
  • Is the imprisonment of a human being locked up for life any more merciful than ending his existence?
  • Should religious belief enter into the equation?
  • Should the families and relatives of a murder victim be satisfied with a life sentence for the perpetrator?
  • Is it fair to society to bear the expense of keeping the guilty party in prison for so many years?
  • Is the murderer likely to be rehabilitated?
  • Should parole for a murderer be an acceptable reality?
  • What crimes should be deserving of a death sentence?
  • Is the execution of a murderer death the same as murder?

REMEMBER?

Bruce MacArthur.

He pleaded guilty to eight counts of first-degree murder. He was sentenced to life without parole for 25 years on Feb. 8, 2019.
The judge cites Bruce McArthur’s advanced age (he is 67 years old) and his guilty pleas as reasons for some degree of leniency He sets parole eligibility at 25 years.

Excuse me!  How old was he when he first began his killing spree? Another excuse centred on the fact that Bruce McArthur was 'addicted' to killing. Why is that a factor?

Alexandre Bissonnette.

The Quebec City mosque killer of eight muslims Pleaded guilty to six counts of first-degree murder and six of attempted murder. He was sentenced to life without parole for 40 years on Feb. 8, 2019. He shot and killed 6 men and injured several more people.

Excuse me!  The parents of the 28-year-old man have blamed years of bullying and intimidation for their son’s actions, saying he is not a “monster”. "One hundred years is actually a death sentence in disguise; we all know that," said his father, Raymond Bissonnette. "I fear that in my son’s case, the crown is seeking a political, not a judicial sentence."

Dellen Millard

His victims included Laura Babcock in 2012 and Tim Bosma in 2013. Babcock’s remains have never been found. Millard was further convicted two months ago in the shooting death of his father, Wayne Millard. He apparently tried to make this killing look like a suicide. Millard inherited millions when his father died, but his assets were frozen once he was charged with his murder.

Excuse me! Some say that he was a spoiled, fun-loving kid with too much money and too little parental guidance.

Elizabeth Wettlaufer.

She pleaded guilty to 8 counts of first-degree murder, 4 counts of attempted murder and 2 counts of aggravated assault. She was sentenced to life without parole for 25 years in 2017.  As a nurse, she had ultimate control by deciding who lived and who died. She would inject varying doses of insulin into her charges, looking to find out just how much it would take to kill someone. And how easy it might be to get away with it.

Excuse me!
Her life had been in shambles. In addition to money and drug pressures, she battled mental illness and struggled with her sexual identity. "Part of me started to believe I was the devil," Wettlaufer told investigators. She called her alter ego the ‘Red Surge’!

SOME INTERNATIONAL UNSOLVED MURDERERS

1. The Long Island Serial Killer

This reprobate has been plying a grisly trade for over twenty years now, killing at least ten victims between 1996 and 2010, and possibly more we haven’t yet discovered.

2. The so-called Jeff Davis Killers
in Louisiana

Still unsolved today, the case is known as a possible example of police corruption. In October 2019, interest in the case was renewed as a result of Showtime’s new documentary on the case.

3. Brazil's Rainbow Maniac

Police investigating a former policeman in Rio about the killings.

Over the span of 18 months between 2007 and 2008, the Rainbow Maniac killed 13 people execution-style with bullets to the head, all of whom were killed in Paturis Park and then dumped in nearby bushes with their trousers around their ankles.

THE STUFF:
Unsolved mysteries have been the biggest craze these past few months. From murders where the killer was never found to kidnappings where the victims are still lost, they are unbelievably interesting but equally terrifying.

THE PUN:
Regular naps prevent old age, especially if you take them while driving.

 THE QUESTION:

Are you for or against the death penalty for murders?

THE LEMON:

Awarded to Bruce MacArthur

THE QUOTE:

"We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions. Ronald Reagan
