THE QUEENS; BLOG #2275; FRI DEC 04, 2020

THE COMEBACK:

I HATE YOU!

WELL I DON’T HATE YOU, I’M JUST  NOT EXCITED ABOUT YOUR EXISTENCE.

THE MESSAGE:

In this blog, I would like to share my music preference for female vocalists with you. These women are great singers that release a perfect pitch, sincere message, wonderful sound, and total commitment to their output. Below I have included “THE TEN QUEENS” each with a clip of the lyrics and a great piece of music.

TONY TODAY:

They say that the best way to learn is from the mistakes that one analyzes and resolves not to repeat them. I believe that basic learning is realized through the role models of nurturing parents. Good teachers in our schools provide another valuable source of learning. Participation in worthwhile and recognized extra curricular activities is very much a part of effective learning. Another way to learn is through the expressions of great artists in their music.

INTERESTING STUFF:

1. THE QUEEN OF HEARTS.

KAREN CARPENTER

She lived a complicated and somewhat tragic life. Her struggle with 'Anorexia Nervosa' ensured that her career would be cut short. Her seeming lack of confidence was never present in her singing performances; however, her sickness led to her death and a short-lived career.

HER SONG - ONLY YESTERDAY

2. THE QUEEN OF SOUL.
WHITNEY HOUSTON

Having conquered music, Whitney wanted a movie career. She was pregnant when she made The Bodyguard with Kevin Costner and she had a miscarriage on the set. Costner insisted that the film included Whitney singing. “I Will Always Love You.”  The Bodyguard turned out not only to be a box-office hit but also to have the best-selling soundtrack of all time. But her musical legacy has also been clouded by her personal struggles and tragic death. Only a few hours after Houston's death “I Will Always Love You" topped the US charts.

6. QUEEN OF NEED

ANNE MURRAY

Anne Murray grew up in the small Nova Scotia coal mining town of Springhill.,d. Her breathtaking flight to fame has made Anne Murray a household name in entertainment capitals of the world, and she has amassed more musical awards and accolades than almost any female singer in history. The Anne Murray Centre is a world class, award-winning museum, that showcases Anne's incredible life and career, with an intimate look at her humble beginnings, flight to fame and her enduring contributions to the world of music. HER SONG - YOU NEEDED ME

7. THE QUEEN OF THE COMEBACK

SHANIA TWAIN

Twain had a traumatic childhoo. She grew up in Ontario, Canada, and never knew her biological father. Her mother, Sharon, had depression; her stepfather, Jerry, was an Ojibwa Native American, much discriminated against, alcoholic, violent and mentally ill. “A third of my relatives were suicidal at young ages and died prematurely just from neglect and alcohol abuse.
Then came “the madness”, not only about contracting Lyme disease and experiencing voice loss. Twain and her husband Lange had a son and in 2001, she planned for herself some family time. “I did want a break. But, of course, I would have never stayed away 15 years.” She smiles. “I was too embarrassed to tell anybody that I couldn’t sing. For a long time, I didn’t even know why I couldn’t sing. For years, her fans heard nothing. Then, in 2008, Twain announced that she and Lange were separating. Their eventual divorce was not only the end of a marriage, it was also the end of one of the most successful relationships in music. We learned that husband Lange was having an affair with Twain’s close friend Marie-Anne Thiébaud, who lived half a mile away in the same Swiss town, Corseaux, overlooking Lake Geneva. For a while, Twain retreated back into silence. She still could not sing and there looked to be no chance of her resurrecting her career. Then, in June 2011, Twain announced a two-year residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. She had not performed live since July 2004 but went into the studio and recorded ‘Now', an album of self-penned songs, which was released last year.
These songs provide a fascinating insight into her life. The lyrics are extremely personal and detailed as a result of the shock of being deserted and the anger she feels towards her former friend.

HER SONG - BLUE EYES CRYING IN THE RAIN

8. THE QUEEN OF FAITH

CELINE DION

I should have  included Celine Dion earlier. Even though she put on the best concert I have ever attended, my darling wife could not stand the woman; therefore, out of love and respect for Annie I have lowered her on my list.

HER SONG - THAT’S THE WAY IT IS

9. QUEEN OF THE SAD SEA

LINDA RONSTADT

Linda Ronstadt reduced her activity after 2000 when she felt her singing voice deteriorating. She released her last full-length album in 2004 and performed her last live concert in 2009. Linda announced her retirement in 2011 and later revealed that she is no longer able to sing as a result of a degenerative condition determined to be ‘progressive supra nuclear palsy'. Since then, Ronstadt has continued to make public appearances, going on a number of public speaking tours in the 2010s. She published an autobiography, Simple Dreams: A Musical Memoir In September 2013. A documentary based on her memoirs, Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice was released in 2019.

10. THE QUEEN OF THE TEEN

CONNIE FRANCIS

Concetta Rosa Maria Franconero, born December 12, 1937, is better known as Connie Francis,. She is an American pop singer, former actress, and top-charting female vocalist of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Although her chart success waned in the second half of the 1960s, Francis remained a top concert draw.

In the late 1960s, Francis went to Vietnam to sing for the troops. Through the years, she has performed charity work for organizations such as UNICEF, the USO and CARE. Following a November 1974 performance at the Westbury Music Fair in Westbury, New York, Francis was the victim of a brutal rape and robbery after an intruder broke into her hotel room and held her at knifepoint. She won a lawsuit against the hotel for inadequate security, the result of which influenced the hotel and motel industry to install deadbolts, viewing ports and improved lighting. Francis was unable to sing for years after her attack, but slowly recovered until she was again able to tour in the early 1990s. Her autobiography, WHO’S SORRY NOW, was released in 1984
