WHERE’S THE SOUL; BLOG # 2263; FRI SEP 11, 2020
THE COMEBACK:
WILL IT EVER HAPPEN?
WE’RE SO SORRY!
THE MESSAGE:
In this blog I present the soul as the activator in the human body which brings the physical body to life. But where is it located? Many religious and philosophical traditions support the view that the soul is its own person and is the immortal spirit and essence of an individual. Your soul is that part of you that makes you who you are. It follows that it will live on after your death.
I believe that for all of us, the soul is influenced by our conscience. The soul and conscience interact and direct our behaviours. One does not exist without the other.
It is easy to appreciate the reality and complexity of the human body. We can see it in the mirror. Science has developed and presented skeletal, muscular and nervous systems that interact and can boggle the mind. Compared to the complexity of the soul the human body must, in fact, take a back seat.
TONY TODAY:
ARISTOTLE
In his treatise On Youth, Old Age, Life and Death, and Respiration, Aristotle explicitly states that while the soul has a corporeal form, there is a physical area of the soul in the human body, the heart. The heart is a composition of the soul plus the conscience, and the mind is the leading part of the soul.
GARY ZUKAV
In his book, The Seat of the Soul, he encourages you to become the authority in your own life. It could change the way you see the world, interact with other people, and understand your own actions and motivations.
DANIEL C. DENNETT
Dennett puts forward a concept of consciousness, that suggests there is no single central place where conscious experience occurs. He postulates instead that there are various events of certain 'content-fixation' that occur in various places at various times in the brain. I take this to be his partial explanation of the human soul.
"The tree of life grew, its branches stretching toward complexity. Organisms developed systems, subsystems, and sub-subsystems, layered in ever-deepening regression. They used these systems to anticipate their future and to change it. When they looked within, some found that they had selves—constellations of memories, ideas, and purposes that emerged from the systems inside. They experienced being alive and had thoughts about that experience."

Fallwell
Fallwell has generated headlines in recent years for remarks and actions that were considered racist or anti-Muslim, and he has been criticized for attempting to silence dissent on the university’s campus in Lynchburg, Va. He was suspended with pay early this month after posting a provocative photo on social media. Pressure for him to resign ramped up after news reports this week alleged extramarital conduct involving him and his wife, Becki Fallwell.
