| REPUTATION OR CHARACTER |
Reputation is the general belief or opinion that other people have about you. It determines the social standing of a person in the society and is a measure of his or her influence. A bad reputation is usually derived from an overemphasis on the need to be loved, selfish impulses, a large ego, the need for publicity or drives that some people possess.
Character defines who you really are, regardless of the circumstances in which you find yourself. In the long term your reputation becomes a product of your character. Character is truly revealed by the distinctive qualities of an individual. The main difference between the two concepts is that while the character is more internal, reputation is rather external.
To some citizens, reputation is everything; but one needs to see that character is much more important. A reputation that is gained without character often is defined as hypocrisy. A reputation that grows out of a good character is something to treasure. Your appearance can change or diminish with time, but character is with you always. Who you present yourself as, and how you behave, is more important than your external appearance. If you are mostly concerned about your character, your reputation will take care of itself.
Great people are usually judged by others on their character. Having good character means possessing such admirable traits as honesty, responsibility and courage. It is important and beneficial for one to have good character.
Being honourable and honest in your efforts and in your relations with others are essential qualities.
