THE MESSAGE:

Canadian news papers and broadcasters do a good job of covering and reporting on news events that make us wonder just what our world is coming to.

I find it helpful to reflect on some of the evil characters that have spent their time on earth as Canadians who have let our country down. Obviously some of the perps have mental issues or backgrounds that have allowed them to develop into masochistic, desperate and maniacal creatures.

It is not my intention here to delve into their personalities and suggest, in retrospect, remedies that may have prevented the evil from ever having taken place. Each reader has the right to decide weather or not these individuals are to be pitied or exterminated or somewhere in between. They were not all of them murderers; however, it hurts me to admit that all were Canadians.

THE BLURB:

CLIFFORD OLSON

Though his crimes happened in the early ’80s, the mention of the name Clifford Olson still makes most Canadians shudder. From November 1980 to July 1981, Olson savagely murdered 11 children, earning him the nickname “The Beast of British Columbia.”

The first victim was 12-year-old Christine Weller. She was abducted on November 17, 1980, and her body was found on Christmas day. She had been stabbed multiple times and strangled. Ten more victims would follow, six of them in the month of July. Three of his victims were boys and eight were girls. Their ages ranged from nine to 18. While all of the victims were drugged, their manner of death varied. Some were stabbed while others were bludgeoned to death. Some had also been sexually assaulted and sodomized.

Olson was arrested on August 12, 1981, on suspicion of attempting to abduct two girls. During police questioning, the RCMP began to suspect Olson of the 11 child murders. Though he was charged with the death of one of the victims, Judy Kozma, police had little evidence against Olson in the other murders.

Due to the pressure to make an arrest, the RCMP struck a deal with Olson: If he confessed to all 11 murders and aided in the recovery of the remaining bodies, he would be paid $30,000 for the first four victims and $10,000 for each subsequent victim. This would later become known as the “cash for bodies” deal. Olson agreed to the deal and offered up information about the last victim as a freebie to police. The money was placed in trust for his wife and young child.

In 1982, Olson admitted to 11 counts of murder and was sentenced to 11 concurrent life sentences. He was declared a dangerous offender. Deemed a narcissistic, antisocial psychopath and pedophile who showed no remorse for his crimes, he was denied parole at every hearing. Olson died of cancer in 2011. He was 71 years old.

PAUL BERNARDO - KARLA HOMOLKA

Paul Kenneth Bernardo is known as "The Scarborough Rapist". Though he committed several rapes (18 are documented) around the Scarborough area between 1987 and 1990, he is most known for the torture and murder of 14-year old Leslie Mahaffy and 15-year old Kristen French.

Karla Homolka was Paul Bernardo's wife who abetted his efforts to be somebody. During the investigation of their crimes, Karla claimed that she was forced by Paul to assist in the murders of the two girls; however, video evidence existed that showed she was clearly more willingly involved than she claimed. Ultimately, she agreed to plead guilty for a reduced prison sentence of 12 years. Once released from prison, Homolka moved to Quebec and then later to Guadeloupe, where she has taken the name Leanne Bordelais.

ROBERT PICKTON

Pickton is referred to as “the pig farm killer” from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. He is a former multi-millionaire pig farmer and serial killer convicted in 2007, charged with the murders of 6 women and sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 25 years.

“He confessed to killing a total of 49 women to an undercover police officer posing as a cellmate. Pickton also told the undercover police officer that he wanted to kill one more woman to make it an even fifty and he got caught because he got sloppy.

BRUCE McARTHUR

He attended the High school at which I taught for 32 years. I can't say that I taught him. But if I did I obviously didn't teach him very much. I don't remember him but several friends have inquired as to whether or not I did. Nevertheless, it goes without saying, that this alleged serial killer leaves an embarrassing stain on the good citizens of Canada.

A suspected serial killer accused of targeting gay men and immigrants may have killed more victims than the six he has been charged with killing. Bruce McArthur is accused of murdering two men who were last seen in the city’s Gay Village, along with four others.

One was homeless, smoked crack cocaine and worked as a prostitute. Another was from a conservative Muslim family, who hid the fact that he was gay from them. Another was a recent immigrant with a drug problem. Detectives said the victims fitted a pattern of people on the margins of society whose disappearance attracted little attention. But when Andrew Kinsman, a 49-year-old LGBT+ activist with many friends suddenly went missing the day after Toronto's Gay Pride parade, his disappearance was noticed.

MÉLINA ROBERGE - ISABELLE LAGACE

The National Post featured the two women in an article dated Feb 27, 2018. The Canadians pleaded guilty to importing drugs into Australia. They were caught, with suitcases full of cocaine, on a luxury cruise ship.

The cocaine in their possession was valued by police at $30 million. Much publicity centred around the collection of glamour photos in bikinis they had shared, on social media, of their luxurious cruise vacation.

Andre Jorge Tamine had invited the two girls to join him on an all expense paid cruise around the world.

Australian Border Force Commander Tim Fitzgerald told the press that this was the largest narcotics seizure there had ever been in Australia of drugs carried in by passengers traveling by cruise ship or airlines.

Now the authorities reveal that there were 7 traveling together. They have believed always that this was not a group of friends traveling together but rather the plans of a professional drug cartel.
