THE WORLD TURNS: BLOG # 2123; FEB 09, 2018

THE MESSAGE:

Everyone needs to be loved. Everyone deserves to be loved. A key obligation in any relationship is to realize the importance of preventing an unwanted or unplanned pregnancy. Unfortunately there are situations in this crazy world where this rule of decency is ignored. The world's population is plagued by the presence of lust, greed, ignorance or the drive to be at the top of the ladder.

THE BLURB:

CHILD ABUSE

Child abuse is widespread and can occur in any cultural, ethnic, or income group. It can be physical, emotional, verbal, or sexual and can also result from neglect. Abuse can result in serious injury to the child and possibly even death.

Physical abuse involves deliberate harming of a child. It could involve burning, beating, or breaking bones. Verbal abuse involves harming a child by, for example, belittling them or threatening physical or sexual acts. Emotional trauma can result from several forms of abuse.

Children may be abused because of certain risk factors:
  • Poverty
  • Poor role modelling
  • Disabilities in children that may increase burden on parents
  • Parents' lack of understanding of children's needs and child development
  • Historical domestic abuse of parents
  • Unemployment of family
  • Parental fighting and poor communication including stress, depression or other mental health conditions
  • Substance abuse within the family
  • Community violence or gang affiliation
  • Unwanted or unplanned birth

IMPERIALISM AND SLAVERY

Throughout history there are countless examples of empires that were driven to explore and claim lands and peoples as their own at the expense of indigenous cultures and communities that already existed. Important concepts such as equality, sharing, tolerance and education were ignored. Human beings were exploited in the name of profit and gain or religion and politics.

BOKO HARAM

Nigeria's militant Islamist group has caused havoc in Africa's most populous country through a wave of bombings, assassinations and abductions. The faction is fighting to overthrow the government and create a version of Islam which makes it "haram", or forbidden, for Muslims to take part in any political or social activity associated with Western society. This includes voting in elections, wearing shirts and trousers or receiving a secular education. Boko Haram regards the Nigerian state as being run by non-believers. The region's chronic poverty and poor education system are always helping it gain new recruits.

DICTATORSHIPS

Josef Stalin became the leader of Soviet Union after Lenin died in 1924, and launched government programs that would make the country more progressive. His attempt to move to the new economy, however, led to the starvation of nearly 10 million people. With many intellectuals and activists not in favor of his leadership, Stalin also launched the “Great Purge”, killing every person who opposed him and his ideals

Adolf Hitler does not need much of an introduction as he was famous for being the leader of the Nazis – a German party that was responsible for the deaths of over 17 million people including 6 million Jews and after leading the entire world into war as well as committing numerous war crimes he certainly deserves a spot on this list

Famous for being one of the communist leaders of the Republic of China beginning around World War II, Mao Zedong was a ruler who thirsted for power. In his first five years, he killed about 4 to 6 million by indiscriminately sentencing them to death. His policies also starved about 20 million and on top of that he had numerous enemies of the state executed.

President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe is said to have risen to power via electoral deception and fear mongering. There was even one election where he did not receive any votes in a certain province so he orchestrated the killing of over 20,000 civilians by fabricating stories of rebellion and treason. During his time in office over 3.1 million Zimbabweans lost their homes, jobs, and livelihood due to his “land reform program” aka bulldozing any village that voices dissent.

THE QUESTION:

Is this truly our "Daily Bread"?

THE LEMON:
