AN OLD CANADIAN: BLOG # 2069; JAN 27, 2017

THE MESSAGE:

YOU KNOW YOU'RE OLD WHEN:

  • You brag about the old days.

  • Your favourite pastime is perusing your secret stash of  newspapers from the garage.

  • Your back goes out more than you do!

  • You are blessed with a semi-annual or an annual semi erection
  • Everything hurts and what doesn't hurt doesn't work.
  • You turn out the lights for economic rather than romantic reasons.
  • You sit in a rocking chair and can't get it going.

  • You're 17 around the neck, 42 around the waist, and 110 around the golf course.

    • Your Pacemaker makes the garage doors go up when you see a pretty girl!

    • You know all the answers, but nobody asks you the questions.

    • Your knees buckle, but your belt won't.
    • You quit trying to hold your stomach in, no matter who walks into the room.
    • Your arms are almost too short to read the newspaper.
    • You sing along with the elevator music.
    • You actually enjoy telling  other people about your operations.
    • The end of your tie doesn't come anywhere near the top of your pants.
    • You wear black socks with sandals.
    • Your ears are hairier than your head.
    • You send money to PBS.

    THE BLURB:

    ON BEING CANADIAN

My wife and I have been fortunate enough to have travelled to many of the countries in our world. Every country we visited, the local people on discovering we were from Canada, treated us with respect and a welcoming spirit. On one occasion while dining at a South African eatery, we were seated with a couple from Berlin. When they found out we lived in Toronto, the lady exclaimed" Ah you must know Mayor Rob Ford!"

My father-in-law was a proud Canadian who spent  much time and effort on studying and learning the French Language. He insisted that all Canadians should do so since it was one of our official languages. He was a sincere believer in our 'Charter of Rights and Freedoms' and would quote from it on occasion when one of his children dared to wander from its precepts.

My father and mother were Italian immigrants who came to Canada to find a better life. They became hard working citizens; putting in  12 hour days  in order to grow a successful grocery store business. They were welcomed to this country by huge numbers of their fellow Christians and customers who believed in their spirit and efforts to show how proud they were to be citizens of Canada.

Our children and grand children, their friends and relatives and our circle of dear friends continue to reinforce  my belief that Canada is the absolute best country in which to live.  I am confident that all of our fellow citizens share this opinion.

HERE, PERHAPS, IS HOW OTHERS IN THE WORLD SEE US" (JUST KIDDIN AROUND!)

    THE QUESTION:

How would you define 'OLD AGE'?
