THE MESSAGE:

It seems there is no good news in today's print or broadcast news. Well of course we can rejoice when our favourite athletes and teams win or when the Ontario Liberals lose bi-elections. Another feeling of joy comes our way when some heinous evil-doer is brought to justice and receives a suitable punishment.

Recently I spent some time researching for some of the most unbelievable and distressing events reported in the news. Here are 10 that emphasize the evil side of human nature:

1. COLORADO COPS ARREST SIX IN TWISTED CHILD SEX RING.

Five men and one woman allegedly gave the three teenage victims crystal meth and then forced them to have sex. One of the victims is 13, the other two are 16, authorities in suburban Denver said. A seventh suspect is still at large.

2. A 39 YR OLD MOM BUSTED DURING PROSTITUTION SWEEP IS ACCUSED OF PIMPING OUT HER 15-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER BECAUSE SHE COULDN’T PAY THE RENT!

The FATHER said, “The little girl is 15 years old and Yolanda (THE PIMP MOM) used to let (her) bring home guys and sleep with them.” Then he added added that Maggie (THE LITTLE GIRL) worked as a stripper at a club called The Booby Trap in Doral, Fla.

3. OHIO TRIO ARRESTED FOR BEATING, STARVING, CHAINING UP AND RAPING FOUR YOUNG CHILDREN

Juan Carlos Sanchez, Bobbie Sue Pack and Edwina Louis are alleged to have created a house of horrors in Wheelersburg, replete with ropes, chains and paddles used to beat and restrain the children. Sanchez is accused of raping an 11- and 9-year-old girl.

Juan Carlos Sanchez is charged with rape and child abuse of his girlfriend’s three children, who authorities say were kept chained to their beds and starved in the family’s Ohio home.

Authorities finally learned of the sickening case after the older children, who attend an online school, emailed a teacher Jan. 30 and begged her to call 911.

4. A DELAWARE JURY CONVICTED A PEDIATRICIAN OF WATER BOARDING HIS COMPANION'S DAUGHTER BY HOLDING THE CHILD'S HEAD UNDER A FAUCET.

Dr. Melvin Morse, 60, was convicted Thursday of waterboarding his stepdaughter.

5. CARTEL HIT MAN TESTIFIES HE KILLED 800 PEOPLE, LOST COUNT AFTER THAT

6. WOMAN STUFFED DOWN MANHOLE BY BOYFRIEND — FOUND AFTER 60 HOURS

Someone finally heard her calls for help. Hauled out of the hole, she told police she was "exhausted" from trying to stop herself from drowning in the water. "I did not sleep at all the first night I fell into the manhole. I could see the darkness around me.
The woman, known only as Guo, claimed she was set upon on Dec. 12 because her boyfriend owed her $16,500.

7. FARTING COWS BLEW UP A SHED WITH THEIR GAS

Breaking news from Rasdorf, Germany: This farming village of some 1,500 souls was literally shocked when a shed housing 90 cows spontaneously burst into flames that singed the shed’s roof and the hide of one unlucky beast (who was later treated for burns). The culprit was no arsonist, but rather the hundreds of liters of potent methane gas produced inside of the cows’ guts and emitted via their burping and flatulence. The gas had built up insde the shed and was ignited by a spark of static electricity.

The idea of a shed full of flammable cow farts is both disgusting and hilarious, but the problem of livestock methane production is actually far more insidious. Every year, the roughly 3.6 billion ruminants on this planet—that’s cows, goats, sheep, and oxen that chew cud—emit 80 million metric tons of gas. Each day, a cow relieves itself of about 500 liters (or 132 gallons) of methane, roughly the same amount of pollution that a car produces in the same amount of time. Methane is a destructive greenhouse gas that contributes disproportionately to the Greenhouse Effect. Its effect on the atmosphere is 21 times greater than CO 2. Very few people know about this fact.

Elytte Barbour told investigators they committed the crime because they wanted to kill someone together. The couple, who were married in North Carolina and moved to Pennsylvania about three weeks before the crime, told police Miranda Barbour stabbed LaFerrara in the front seat of her car while her husband held a cord around his neck.

Miranda Barbour said in the interview that she doesn’t want to get out of jail and that she would kill again if she were released. She said she had no remorse and only killed “bad people.”

9. NORTH KOREA'S KIM JONG-UN IS WANTED FOR CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY, UN-MANDATED INQUIRY SAYS

Missoula County Attorney Fred Van Valkenburg's policies were investigated by the Department of Justice after victims complain about mishandled sexual assault cases. They found Missoula County Attorney’s prosecutors routinely discriminated against female victims, refusing legitimate cases, pushing sex crimes to the lowest of priorities and belittling women who came to them for help.
