COMMENTS THAT SHOULD MATTER; BLOG # 2221; FRI JAN 31,2020

THE COMEBACK:

I HATE SCIENTISTS. THEY SUCK!

NOT ALL OF THEM, JUST THE SO CALLED CLIMATE SCIENTISTS.

THE MESSAGE:

What is wrong with Canada? Well according to an international survey...not much! We are ranked second, behind only Switzerland. Canada was ranked first for quality of life, second in “leading the world by example,” and third in terms of business opportunity.

The group conducting the survey emphasizes that Canada has generous social safety nets and offers affordable health care and quality education. The survey originators say, “Countries that care about human rights, gender equality, and religious freedom are respected by other nations  as examples worth imitating.”
Canada's first-place rating for quality of life is due to the high scores it earned for its job market, affordable health care,  quality of education and  its economic stability. Our country is considered to be an ideal place to raise a family.

Canada did not score well in the challenges regarding our Indigenous people, our military strength, our manufacturing costs and how sexy we are as a people. (My picture above is an attempt to change this critique).

After Switzerland and Canada, the top 10 countries were, in order, Japan, Germany, Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Norway. China ranked 15th place and Russia 23rd. Lebanon ranked last.

Tired of my blabbering? How about considering the words of others with more credibility on a variety of stories?

CONRAD BLACK NATIONAL POST

"Greta Thunberg, the tiresome Swedish teenage scold, has been sailing around the world reproaching the planet’s adult population for failing our progeny by mismanaging the planet environmentally. This is a demonstration of weakness by the environmentalists, not strength. Successive claims of imminent doom by the climate alarmists have consistently failed to materialize. Our oil and gas industries are not being strangled by the irresistible veracity of the climate change movement; the entire world except Western Europe and Canada are carrying on without any obvious sign of believing their carbon emissions are threatening human civilization."

TEVA HARRISON TORONTO WRITER
DIED OF CANCER AT AGE 42.

Teva died a few months ago
Her husband David Leonard writes, in a Globe and mail contribution, Teva prioritized the things she loved most. She discovered a way to live with hope and beauty despite the challenges of cancer. Her graphic novel In-Between Days gave voice to a struggle many woman share and became an inspiration to people across the country. Teva is supporting me as I navigate my grief. She tapped into some universal truths about what makes a life.

"Those lessons are also in the work she left behind. For the countless people reckoning with chronic illness who have seen something of themselves in the truth of her poetry, or the rest of us trying to make sense of a difficult and sometimes painful world, her example is a good place to start. For me, in my grief, the light she left for us to carry continues to guide me, and her message of hope for a better world is a reason to keep going."

"The Throne speech shows Trudeau learned nothing in the election. Did the government temper any of the ideas they ran on in the election? No, despite the fact that this government has the weakest mandate and lowest share of the vote of any government in Canadian history."

"Did they adopt any ideas from any of the opposition parties to show that they are willing to work together? No, simply a mention of the NDP’s promise to fight money laundering and the Conservative idea of making parental benefits tax free without committing to acting on either idea."

"Nor has Trudeau ever explained why he wants to ban  rifles and spend $600 million or more to buy them back when the problem of gun violence in Canada comes from smuggled handguns. On handguns, the speech said cities will be allowed to put their own bans in place. It was funny that on the heels of Trudeau making international headlines and angering the American administration for mocking Donald Trump at a NATO summit, the final section of the speech was, “Positioning Canada for success in an uncertain world.”"

"The only thing we know for certain is that Trudeau continues to embarrass Canada on the world stage. I’ve given Trudeau credit for striking a new tone since the election, for seeming a bit humbled, for listening while speaking to premiers and others. It seemed Trudeau was willing to work with others and adapt, to learn from the election results. This speech says otherwise and if this is Trudeau’s path forward, then the change I’ve noted may have been nothing but an act."

The new minister of Canadian Heritage, has promised to introduce legislation requiring foreign-based internet platforms to fund the creation of Canadian cultural content by the end of this year.

A government-appointed panel is recommending a massive overhaul of Canada’s broadcasting and telecommunications law

Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) chair Ian Scott, meanwhile, has called such rules inevitable.

The panel is also looking to expedite the roll-out of advanced telecommunications networks, including by granting carriers access to public infrastructure such as lampposts and utility poles and by introducing a faster method of resolving any disputes that arise between telecom companies and municipalities.
