ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION; BLOG # 2174; FRI FEB 08, 2019

THE MESSAGE:

Most Canadians are empathetic, unselfish and responsible citizens of the free world. We frown upon dictators who limit freedom in their own countries. In the event of a national uprising that threatens human lives, civil wars can erupt that result in damage to homes, welfare and safety.

Today there exist several regimes around the world that present intolerable living conditions for natives. They are forced to flee with their families to more enlightened and freer countries.

In Canada, the refugee system is meant to protect people who have escaped from the face of death, torture and cruelty. They will be  exposed  to these threats once again if they are forced to return to their homeland.

Once a person or family is declared to be a refugee claimant, they are eligible to obtain work permits and government healthcare. They are able to gain access to public schools and social assistance. These benefits are available even before the time he or she has to present their case, at a refugee hearing, for staying in Canada. One immigration lawyer says, "Realistically, if it’s going to take 10 years to get a refugee hearing … you’ve almost got de facto amnesty.”

Apparently there are many world citizens who obtain travel visas to the USA with the intention of slipping across the border into Canada and a  better life.

Would everyone not agree to self sacrifice and some resultant expense to save fellow human beings from death or harm? Hmmm... apparently some do not.

THE BLURB:

Toronto Mayor John Tory announced that the number of refugee claimants in the city’s shelter system has quadrupled from 459 per night in 2016 to an average of 2,351 in 2018. And at least one Quebec politician is calling for a border fence with the U.S.

Once in Canada, illegals place an enormous stress on local law enforcement. It is also believed that health care providers are included in the cost analysis

As well there is enormous pressure on schools to accommodate illegal immigrants.

Many believe that these resources should be expended on citizens and people who have respected our laws to come here. Too much of it is wasted on non-citizens who stay in the country illegally. More than 20,000 illegal border crossings have occurred in Canada by foreign nationals seeking asylum since early in 2017.

Canadian law does not view the border crossers as criminal. However, while someone can be charged for entering Canada without authorization, those charges are waived once an asylum claim is made.

In January last year, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted, “to those fleeing persecution, terror and war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. ”This seems to be a popularized response to U.S. president Donald Trump’s executive order banning all travel from seven countries with large Muslim populations.

SPEAKING OF THE USA:

A new Gallup world poll found that nearly 160 million people around the world want to emigrate to the United States. 21 percent of them would like to go to the U.S. permanently.

President Trump has reacted predictably. His supporters claim that Democrats are willing to endanger the country in order to deny Trump a victory by creating his wall.

Even though illegals are forbidden access to federally-funded health care, Forbes magazine estimates that 3.9 million uninsured illegals receive about 4.6 billion dollars in health services from the federal government. Another 2.8 billion dollars that is expended from state and local taxpayers, goes to illegal immigrants. To these costs add 3 billion dollars due to the rate increase in payments made by insured Americans. All told, Americans cross-subsidize health care for unauthorized immigrants to the tune of  an estimated 18.5 billion dollars a year.

In President Trump's first fiscal year in office, more than 2,304 people were arrested for either employing illegals or working illegally in the country. That's a 700 percent increase from the previous fiscal year. Supporters argue that this is a direct result of Trump authorizing authorities to investigate all crime surrounding illegal immigrants and not just focusing on the most serious cases.

Democrats ask why is the government arresting hardworking immigrants? Aren't they just seeking a better way of life. Trump supporters declare there is a simple twofold answer. One, they are not here legally. Two, they are taking jobs that hardworking Americans do not have access to.

THE UN GLOBAL COMPACT:
The Global Compact on migration is an inter-governmentally negotiated agreement coordinated by the United Nations.  United Nations Member States have agreed on an all-encompassing Global Compact to better manage international migration, address its challenges, strengthen migrant rights and contribute to sustainable development.

The U.S. and Australia see the Compact as incompatible with their sovereignty concerns.

The Belgian prime minister, resigned after his coalition government collapsed because of his signing of the UN migration pact.

Hungary desires measures that deter, rather than promote, migration. The two world views for and against the Compact could not be further apart.

The U.N. sees migration as a benefit to all people while opponents see it as a risk to security and social cohesion.

Here are some of the aspects of the Compact that Canada is about to sign onto. The Compact calls up the need for significant resources to be expended by both federal and provincial agencies. It asks individual Canadians to sacrifice their right to criticize such policies and expenditures. With the health and education burdens the provinces must bear, should the provinces, not be consulted before signing on to such an enterprise?

It seems that the federal government is simply chasing an international 'Huzzah'. Remember the Trudeau declaration “Canada is back”. (Well maybe in bacon!)

The Liberals seem unwilling to listen to concerns over the loss of sovereignty, security and individual rights and freedoms.

The Premier of Ontario has demonstrated his willingness to rock the boat and speak up. Ontario has much to lose in the way of health and educational capacity.

THE QUESTION:

Should Canada sign the UN compact on migration?

THE LEMON:
Awarded to the City of Toronto for resisting the common sense need to create a 1 way grid for the downtown core.
