One of the benefits of being a part of a committed and successful team is the development of a strong sense of working together with team mates and coaches to achieve success. It teaches an individual to respect others and to be respected by them. He or she get experience in becoming a valuable member of our society. Having others depend on you along with being able to depend on other team members in achieving goals is an experience well worth having.

There are several concepts involved in developing mental toughness in our lives.
- ENTITLEMENT. The world does not owe us a life filled with pleasures, possessions and pampering. One must work at being a successful person!
- FAILURE. The road to success contains many barriers that we must be prepared to hurdle. Failure is a valuable signpost. Past mistakes can be valuable teachers; however, dwelling on them is counterproductive !
- PATIENCE. Success may not be achieved right away. It is necessary to plan for it. If obstacles confront us then we must be prepared to alter our plans or our course!
- CONFIDENCE. At times everyone is haunted by self doubt. It is imperative to believe in yourself as a person who has much to contribute. The contribution may be in the form of family partner, a mentor of any offspring, a volunteer within the community or a career destination. Self confidence breeds success!
- POPULARITY. Sometimes we will run into others who disagree with our efforts or methods. The reasonable course is to consider what goals are best suited to our abilities and the needs of others. It is impossible to please everyone!
- RISK. Things that are worth developing often come with considerable risk. It is important to be thorough in realizing the pitfalls and calculating the path to success. Nothing worth achieving comes easily!
- INITIATIVE. Ideas and the courage to investigate, discuss and pursue them are the mark of a good team mate and leader. Vision and determination are key!
- GROUPS. Sometimes people are swayed by high school associates, political parties, or gangs. Never allow the fear of being alone to dissuade you from doing the right thing. Follow your heart and soul!
