THE MESSAGE:
A protest to affect change should not create more division, opposition or resentment against the cause.
The recent foo fah over pro athletes sitting or kneeling during the anthem is a good example of why divisions still exist in some societies. It begs the question that challenges the concept of " THE SILENT MAJORITY". Some are willing to blame President Trump for 'insulting' them on Twitter. Others resent the fact that Trump is unstatesmanlike in his demeanour. It is noted that some athletes remained seated during the playing of the U.S.A. anthem prior to Trump's "un- presidential" like reaction that incited further protests. It would have been better for the protesters to remain in the locker room until the anthem was played. I believe that professional athletes who disgrace the anthem are more at fault than Trump. They are spitting in the face of veterans who fought and died for their country. Their actions are surely immature and poorly thought through. To me they come across as highly paid, spoiled human beings who are selfishly claiming that they are trying to do "THE RIGHT THING".
THE BLURB:
Do public protests by groups actually have a positive effect on society? Or is it that they invariably contribute to a further decline in respect as well as a further separation in cultural, societal or political circles? Do public protests actually make a difference in assimilating differences.
The Washington Million Man March of October 16, 1995. called by Louis Farrakhan won support and participation from a number of prominent African American leaders. it was largely regarded as an important milestone in improving black lives. It's legacy is marred by controversy over several issues. The leader of the march, is a controversial figure whose commentary on race in America has led some to wonder whether the message of the march can be disentangled from that of its organizer. Two years after the march, the Million Woman March was held in response to fears that the Million Man March had focused on black men to the exclusion of black women.
Some black leaders wanted to make an issue out of the media coverage of black men such as O.J. Simpson and Mike Tyson. They postulated that this was an attempt by white society to emphasize the evil attitudes of black men towards women.

My point is that even in the face of these marches, society is still, today encountering protest groups such as 'Black Lives Matter'. Has anything progressed over the last 22 years?
The KKK still exists and ignorance thrives!
UNION PROTESTS
The shutdown of infrastructure, schools and other public services over the demands for higher wages or working conditions causes further divide between different groups. Is the resulting situation better or worse for society as a whole? Are Unions a necessary evil? Would teachers be better served to split up and go door to door to talk with parents and explain their grievances?
ABORIGINAL NEEDS
Was Teresa Spence justified in making a spectacle of herself in a hypocritical hunger strike for a better situation in Attawapiskat, Ontario, Canada ? This community of approximately 1700 people had a highly paid council of 17 "friends of the chief" using federal monies.
Certainly many Aboriginals need help in progressing as members of a common society. Is the answer found in creating welfare states? Canada must help to eliminate selfish and greedy leaders! Aboriginals need to look inside their own communities. Why do unruly relatives or acquaintances prey on their women? I believe the latter two realities deserve more emphasis.

LEADERSHIP
Are Prime Ministers, Presidents, Immams, Ayatolahs more interested in popularity among the populations of the world and remaining in power rather than working together to promote peace and prosperity for all?
THE QUESTION:
Do public protests or displays actually affect a change for the better in society as a whole?
