TOO LIBERAL WITH TAXPAYERS $$$; BLOG 2054; OCT14,2016

THE MESSAGE:

I know that the term liberal has some connection with the concept of 'freedom'. Does it mean freedom and protection from tyrants, oppression, invasion, criminal action, or other evil threats?  I would hope so and this would be a good thing.

THE BLURB:

More recently, in the world of Canadian politics  it has become apparent that the word Liberal applies to government corruption, wasteful spending and boondoggles. This indictment applies to both Federal and Provincial politicians. Many politicians feel free to charge the tax paying citizens for outrageous  moving expenses, child care services, travel costs, and other perks that are unavailable to citizens of lower economic means or legislative power and influence.

Recently, Julian Ovens, chief of staff to Global Affairs Minister Stéphane Dion, and Elder Marques, chief to Economic Development Minister Navdeep Bains, issued statements saying they are following the lead set by Gerald Butts, Justin Trudeau’s principal secretary, and Katie Telford, the prime minister’s chief of staff, by reimbursing some of the expenses they received for moving to Ottawa.

Lobbyists, representing private, big business entities, and their friendly, neighbourhood Liberal Politician, have few problems and much to gain by working out schemes that ensure benefits to both parties.

Liberals have a noted bent for legislation and handing out monies that are seen as politically the right thing to do in order to maintain power. Governments are good at spending money, but they’re not always good at spending it well. And unless infrastructure money is well spent, the notion of an economic boost doesn’t compute.

In Ontario, alternative energy investments with government subsidies, are transforming Sault Ste. Marie and costing the rest of Ontario Jobs and $$$billions! How long will  the revenue flow and the jobs created  remain after the government subsidies dry up?

McGuinty's gas plant fiasco began with the Ontario Liberals' initial refusal to hand over gas plant documents to the legislature's justice committee. It sparked a contempt debate that eventually forced McGuinty to resign as premier under a cloud of scandal in October 2012

David Livingston and Laura Miller, who were McGuinty's chief of staff and deputy chief of staff, were charged after a police investigation into the deletion of emails about the Liberals' decision to cancel two gas plants prior to the 2011 election, at a cost of up to $1.1 billion.

Current Premiere Wynne has apologized repeatedly for the gas plants scandal, which the opposition parties called "an expensive Liberal seat-saver campaign."

The Ontario Provincial Police are looking into financial irregularities at the Orange air ambulance service, and potential breaches of a bribery section of the Election Act related to a 2015 by-election in Sudbury, Ont.

The provincial police also recently started another investigation after Trillium Power Wind Corp. complained to police about the alleged destruction of documents in a lawsuit it filed against the province.

Meanwhile, Ontario electricity customers have paid more than $6 billion to cover the cost of exporting the province’s energy surplus, according to a new study from the Consumer Policy Institute.

Ontario’s electricity consumers end up paying the premium between what Queen’s Park has promised to pay generators through long-term contracts and what that power is worth on the electricity market. That premium is paid each month through a consumer-funded charge known as the Global Adjustment, which has increased, on average, 20% annually over the last 5 years. The study also showed that, as a result of provincial policy enacted in 2011, residential and small businesses customers in Ontario pay a greater percentage of the export subsidy than large energy consumers.

“Ontario's are facing soaring hydro bills made worse by being forced to subsidize cheap electricity for customers in other states and provinces,” says Brady Yauch, economist and Executive Director of the Consumer Policy Institute. “The province has turned the business of selling power into a money loser for Ontario electricity customers.

CANADA IS BACK??

We sent a delegation to last year’s Paris climate treaty talks that was twice as large as that of the U.S. and three times as large as the UK.

Federal departments racked up $17M on cab rides over Liberals’ first seven months in power. Federal Liberals spent millions on overtime for communications staff.

One of the largest gifts, $235.5 million, was steered towards Environment and Climate Change Canada and the government’s pan-Canadian climate strategy.

CANADIAN TAXES

These days our governments consistently waste money on ill-advised economic development schemes or they continue to burn the citizens with taxes, particularly if it involves something trendy like green energy.

Trudeau has announced is a new tax imposed on all Canadians for using fossil fuel energy to live in a large, cold country with a resource-based economy. Wynne plans to institute a carbon tax in 2017

Meanwhile, the U.S., our largest trading partner, doesn't have a national carbon price. This folly is sure to ensure that the Canadian  economy will be at a competitive disadvantage.

Consider the case of the Thunder Bay Generating Station, a former coal plant that was converted to burn biomass. Due to a technical oversight, it can only burn imported biomass from Norway.

ALBERTA'S PROBLEM BUT WHO CARES
Carbon Tax? Jason Kenny explained in question period, that any new carbon tax would bring hardship and job losses to Albertans. Trudeau's flippant and dismissive response was, "I take this opportunity to remind the member opposite (Jason Kenny) that he is still in Ottawa and not  in Alberta." The Liberal members exploded in cheers and laughter.

THE QUESTION:

Why do fools fall in love.......with LIBERALS?

THE LEMON:

Awarded to Fred King. He led a church near Owen Sound, ON. Fred King was a vicious tyrant who used his cult to bend vulnerable people to do whatever suited his will.

This was a blog far superior to last week's primarily because it did not feature the ghastly features of Michael Byron Kennedy, Ph.D.
