CARBON SCAM PART 2; BLOG # 2035, JUNE 03,2016

CAP AND TRADE?

THE MESSAGE:

The real  crisis surrounding climate change for Canadians is not the possibility that we are contributing to dangerous, man made global warming.  It is the damage being caused today by our Liberal government's policies designed for  Canadian  action to supposedly mitigate climate change!

Climate change activists might believe that it would be worthwhile to let millions of people suffer today to save billions in the future from climate change catastrophe they claim is right around the corner. They argue that we must change the way we generate energy.

AN EXCERPT FROM A POST BY RANDY POMPETTI  OF HANNA, ALBERTA.

My fellow Canadians, you are buying into a lie regarding our energy industry and the global environment. We are a mere 35 million people, just 0.5% of this planet's 7.3 billion population. Our country covers roughly 10 million square kilometres of which probably 90% is realistically uninhabitable.

We endure temperature extremes ranging from -40C or colder to 35C or warmer. Out of necessity we need to heat our homes for 6+ months the year. We face major transportation challenges simply because of the geography of our country. Yet, through all this we are responsible for less than 0.5% of the pollution generated globally.

We ARE NOT the problem! If every one of us here in Canada chose to sacrifice ourselves for the betterment of mother earth and self-terminated, the positive effect on the global environment would be.....drum roll please......zero!

The global effect would actually be negative because we are one of the most ethical, environmentally responsible producers of energy in the world! If we were out of the picture the U.S. would be mining our oil sands before our corpses had even started giving off methane gas. They would then proceed to build the biggest pipeline imaginable, from Fort Mac to Texas.

The opposition to our Canadian energy development is a well-organized attempt to keep our Canadian oil land locked so that we are forced to sell to the U.S. and to the U.S. only and then at a very discounted price. The U.S. is attempting and succeeding in preventing us from marketing our own natural resources globally to the highest bidder. U.S. foundations (HP, Tides - THE ROCKEFELLERS - et al) are funding the opposition to our oil sands and contrary to popular belief it has absolutely nothing to do with threats to the environment.

In the oil sands, our very own Canadian oil sands, we have the 3rd largest proven crude oil reserve in the world, behind only Saudi Arabia and Venezuela.  Over the next 25 years the oil sands has the potential to generate over $1.5 TRILLION in federal and provincial taxes and royalties. There is the potential for well over 500,000 direct and indirect jobs.

SOME SAD REALITIES THE LIBERALS HAVE FOISTED ON RESIDENTS IN ONTARIO!

To reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions that activists tell us will lead to problematic warming, Ontario  became the first jurisdiction in North America to permanently ban coal-fired electricity generation.  In 2002, when coal provided about 25 percent of our electricity, Ontario had the lowest electricity prices in Canada with correspondingly hundreds of thousands of well paid, manufacturing jobs.  Today, in the absence of coal-fired power, our electricity rates are 318 percent higher. At least 300,000 manufacturing jobs have been lost in the last 15 years. The single most contributing cause can be attributed to  higher electricity costs.

As part of Ontario’s Green Energy Plan, the primary purpose of which is to reduce CO2 emissions, 6,736 industrial wind turbines are being constructed across the province. Only 4 percent of our power came from wind energy in 2013 and 1 percent from solar, yet together they accounted for 20 percent of the commodity cost paid by Ontarians.

In West Lincoln, Ontario, despite extensive public objections, wind developers have received approval to install at least seventy-seven 3 Megawatt industrial wind turbines in the region, each as tall as a 61 story building.

ONTARIO PREMIER KATHLEEN WYNNE

Kathleen Wynne talks about ensuring the welfare of her granddaughter's future in the face of impending climate change. She has promised her government would not force wind turbines into any “unwilling communities.” To date, 90 communities have declared themselves as “unwilling.” Yet, in the name of stopping climate change, construction is underway, or planned, in many of these areas.

COLLEGE OF FAMILY PHYSICIANS OF CANADA,

Dr. Roy D. Jeffery, Carmen Keogh  and Brett Horner explained, “People who live or work in close proximity to wind turbines have experienced symptoms that include decreased quality of life, annoyance, stress, sleep disturbance, headache, anxiety, depression, and cognitive dysfunction.” Infrasound from wind turbines goes right through walls. It pummels your body. But the approvals for wind turbines go ahead regardless. Stopping hypothetical climate change trumps everything else.

KAREN HUNTER IN THE HUFFINGTON POST

UNIFOR Canada's largest private-sector union (formerly the CAW) owns and operates a wind turbine that generates 'revenue for the union through taxpayer subsidies'. Plagued from its beginning by controversy and compliance issues, Unifor's turbine continues to operate in defiance of mandatory noise audits and despite hundreds of noise complaints from families forced to live near it.

Unifor's turbine is not only contentious, it should be illegal by today's standards due to legislation that came into effect May 1st. But, it's not the first time the turbine has had this problem. And, the union has always managed to solve it -- with a little help from its friends in the Ministry of the Environment (MOE).

Unifor's wind turbine is a square peg the union forced into a round hole. Located at their Family Education Centre (FEC) in the tourist community of Port Elgin on Lake Huron, the turbine sits in a sports field adjacent to the facility's parking lot. The 35-storey, 800kw turbine towers over a neighbourhood of about 200 homes with some as close as 210 m.

The union chose the FEC location over a remote plot of 128 acres of undeveloped land it owned about a mile away because, President Ken Lewenza said (in the Shoreline Beacon, Dec.20/11), the undeveloped land was "economically or environmentally unfeasible." No sooner was the turbine built, the union subdivided the undeveloped land into building lots and sold them for substantial profit.

The union's decision to locate its turbine in a densely populated neighbourhood posed many legislative hurdles. But, none the union hasn't been able to handle -- at least, so far.

In 2005, when Town Council objected to the turbine's location, the union took the case to the provincial municipal board (OMB) and got the rejection overturned.

OR IS IT?
When noise modeling analysis showed that the turbine's noise would exceed provincial standards for a rural community (making it illegal), the union and the MOE agreed to classify the rural neighbourhood as semi-urban to accommodate the increased noise. The turbine's noise problem was solved. But, not for long.

Soon after, the MOE issued new legislation focused on health and safety, requiring turbines of its height and power to be located a minimum of 550 m from homes. Again, the not-yet-built turbine would be illegal. However, the MOE agreed to grandfather the union's turbine approval certificate, exempting the turbine from the mandatory 550 m setback. The union had dodged another bullet. But, the turbine wasn't yet in the clear.

New noise assessments on the turbine (due to the union's decision to upgrade it to 800kw) showed it would again exceed provincial noise standards. Once more, it was illegal. This time, the union said it would run the turbine at less than full power to reduce noise despite a reduction in revenue. Under this special agreement with the MOE, the union was given full authority to manage both the turbine's operating power and its noise level policing. In return, the MOE required noise audits to be conducted by the union within the first two years of operation to ensure compliance with provincial standards.

What's more, under this unique "depowering" arrangement, the union now qualified for a "zero setback from homes" classification. And, as a bonus, the power reduction expedited the turbine's connection to the grid. Not only was the turbine legal again, it was a win-win-win for the union.

As construction began, a proud Ken Lewenza stated (in the Shoreline Beacon, Dec.20/11), the "turbine meets all provincial health and safety requirements...Our windmill project is in full compliance with provincial standards."

Fast-forward to 2016 and the turbine's fourth year of operation. Hundreds of community noise complaints have been filed. The turbine's mandatory noise audits have not been completed. An on-line petition calls for provincial government action. And, now legislation (eliminating zero setback and requiring 550m for turbines of this size and power) should make Unifor's turbine once again illegal by current provincial standards.

But, the union's been down this road before and knows how to solve these problems. The provincial government has been there too and knows how to help. Grandfathering Unifor's turbine may again be their solution. But, in doing so, Unifor and the MOE are also grandfathering harm on the families forced to live near it.

A MESSAGE FROM KAREN HUNTER

My next article is about the families who live near this turbine. What it’s like. How they're suffering. What happens when they complain? What recourse do they have? Yes, it’s my obsession. I hope, at the very least, I’ve been able to interest you in their plight. I also hope that, if I’ve engaged you, you will do what you can to spread the message about this social injustice. (I should add that this community is just one, of many, in rural Ontario facing this issue.)

Some of the things you can do…share the link with friends/family, post/like the article on Facebook, send out a tweet, encourage others to sign the petition that asks Minister Murray to take action.

I know these families are grateful for anything that can be done to raise the profile of this injustice.
Thanks for your support,

Karen

SOME BLOOD-BOILING FACTS TO ILLUSTRATE WHAT YOUR ONTARIO HYDRO PAYMENTS SUPPORT!

Between the Ontario Energy Board (OEB), Hydro One and the Ontario Power Generation (OPG) (all three Public Sector Agencies):

  • There are 11,879 employees who make more than $100,000/Year!

  • These top earners draw combined annual earnings of over 1.6 billion dollars. There are 626 making more than $200,000/Year
  • According to the Globe and Mail, 77.5% of Ontario Power Generation employees make over $100,000/Year.

  • Over 70% of Hydro One employees and over 60% of Ontario Energy Board employees make over 100K.

THE QUESTIONS:

  • How do activists provide any convincing evidence that scientists are able to meaningfully forecast future climate states.
  • How do they react to this statement? “The climate system is a coupled non-linear chaotic system, and therefore the long-term prediction of future climate states is not possible.”
  • Are the largely unpredictable problems of people yet to be born more important that the very real problems climate mitigation policy is now causing our most vulnerable citizens?
