Recently, my precious granddaughter, Victoria Ann Kinley, received an award from Deer Park PS in Toronto for perseverance. I was proud and overjoyed as she had received previous awards for Empathy.
My mother used to tell me, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” Recently an old friend sent me another version, “Where there’s a will, I want to be in it.” Both versions of the adage are certainly true in today’s society. Some are so wrapped up in the material world that they miss out on what is truly of most value. Interpersonal relationships fall by the wayside as self-aggrandizement, technology and other distractions bombard their body and soul.
Perseverance takes courage and other people caring enough to stand over and guide you until the values of loving, learning, persisting and setting goals are understood and trusted. The benefits and satisfaction derived from persevering and reaching one's goals are immeasurable.
Parents have the responsibility to ensure that their offspring have the opportunity to realize their potential. Excellent teachers are in an advantageous position to teach and encourage their students to strive for excellence. Siblings, good friends and fellow students also serve in the realization of one's crucial human development. To be truly happy we need people in our lives who care. A peaceful, civilized society is totally dependant on citizens who help provide a selfless environment for all members.

work, dedication to the job at
hand, and the determination
that whether we win or
lose, we have applied the best
of ourselves to the task at
hand." Vince Lombardi
