BEHAVIOUR; BLOG # 154; FRI OCT 24,2014

THE MESSAGE: Thoughts on behaviours

FEELINGS
Our feelings are a natural response to our experience, thoughts,  and intentions. We don’t really choose our feelings directly. Our feelings are a feedback mechanism.

Pleasant positive feelings.  STRONG, LOVING, HAPPY, ALIVE, GOOD and INTERESTED. Positive feelings are the ones we all strive for and enjoy.
Alright, alright, alright!

Unpleasant negative feelings. ANGRY, DEPRESSED, SAD CONFUSED, HELPLESS, HURT and AFRAID. These we try to avoid by making choices that are, more often than not, debilitating.
Alright, who pooped!

ATTITUDES
Attitudes can be described as having a definitive structure that is made up of 3 components.

Affective component: This involves a person’s feelings about the object being considered. “I hate Brussels sprouts”.

Behavioural component: the way our attitude influences our actions or behaviours. “I will avoid Brussels sprouts and scream if they are placed in front of me”.

Cognitive component: this involves a person's knowledge about an attitude object. “I believe Brussels sprouts make me constipated”.

BEHAVIOUR
The manner in which a person conducts himself in response to his or her environment.

POSITIVE BEHAVIOURS STEM FROM PLEASANT FEELINGS AND OUTLOOKS

NEGATIVE BEHAVIOURS STEM FROM UNPLEASANT FEELINGS AND OUTLOOKS

TONY'S PHILOSOPHY
1. We cannot choose the genetics or roots into which we are born. Our choices are restricted to how we deal with that which we are given.
2. Families are influenced by social norms and media exposure.
3. Societies are many and varied. The beliefs, customs and behaviours of the majority or the mighty become the rule.
4. People are disliked not because of colour, race or creed; rather, it is their attitudes and behaviours that offend. Feelings and attitudes are crucial in the development of a productive citizen.
5. Societies should be preoccupied with developing positive feelings and responsible attitudes among families.

TONY'S REALITIES
1. There is no feeling as joyful as witnessing and experiencing the birth of a child.
2. There is no feeling as painful as the loss of a child.
3. A child born into our society must be wanted and nurtured by parents who are prepared to do so.
4. Young adults need to be engaged by society so that they feel a vested interest in its development and survival.
5. Economic prosperity is just as important to human existence as environmental preservation.

TONY'S WICKED BEHAVIOURS QUESTIONED

Pride: Is defined as possessing too much self-importance; however, without pride, there would be no competition or music. Being proud of our accomplishments is a good feeling that which motivates us to accomplish more.

Envy: Is defined as an evil desire to possess what others have; however, as social creatures it's natural to want what others have. This motivates us to work hard and become successful.

THE QUESTION:

Why are the answers to most problems in society so elusive?

THE QUOTE:

"There's still a lot I'm angry about; a lot of human behaviour that's appalling and despicable; but,  you choose what you can fight against. I always thought if I could just put something in words perfectly enough, people would get the idea and it would change things."  - Neil Peart

LEMONS TO:
The brothers reverend for stirring up hatred and excusing unacceptable behaviours.
