NEWS BITS TO BITE ON; BLOG # 141; JULY 25, 2014

THE MESSAGE:

MORE GOOD, BAD AND UGLY

GOOD NEWS

Three little girls with cancer are, miraculously, all in remission now.  Four-year-old Ainsley Peters, 3-year-old Rylie Hughey and 6-year-old Rheann Franklin, all of Oklahoma, were snapped by photographer Lora Scantling in an April photo. The picture shows the girls embracing, decked out in dresses, pearls and headbands, with the caption "Sometime strength comes in knowing that you are not alone!"...

BAD NEWS
DOOFUS DUFFY

Why doesn't this guy just shut up, go away and lick his wounds?

WAR IN THE MIDDLE EAST

An Arab member of the Israeli Knesset is calling for the Muslims to rise up throughout the region against Israel! The uprising of the Muslims against Israel and the formation of a Caliphate seem to be imminent.

Tens of thousands protested in London Saturday afternoon against Israel’s military operations in Gaza, denouncing Israel as a terrorist state and castigating British Prime Minister David Cameron for backing Israel’s right to self-defence against Hamas rocket fire.

WAR IN THE UKRAINE

RUSSIA'S PERSPECTIVE AND PUTIN'S PUSH

The West is faced with the historical fact  that, to Russia, Ukraine can never be just a foreign country. Prior to the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, Ukraine had been part of Russia for centuries, and their histories were intertwined before then. Some of the most important battles for Russian freedom, starting with the BATTLE OF POLTAVA 1709, were fought on Ukrainian soil. Even such famed dissidents as Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn and Joseph Brodsky insisted that Ukraine was an integral part of Russian history and, indeed, of Russia.

Russia is faced with the reality that the West believes in self determination, freedom and abborhence of deliberate attacks that target passenger aircraft filled with innocent souls.

NO NEWS?

WHEN NO NEWS IS NOT GOOD NEWS
The bad news about Ontario's debt is that it will keep getting bigger, bolder and badder. The really big number in the latest budget, a $310-billion debt, keeps growing.

With the Liberal budget's reintroduction, their future spending plan seems to ignore what many feel is an impending doom. Two years ago, Moody's downgraded our credit rating. Recently the rating agency placed Ontario on a "negative outlook". Does this mean another downgrade? Economists warn that this will result in higher interest rates.

The latest budget is built on top of a $12.5-billion deficit. The Liberal Government claims Ontario will be in balance in three years, in spite of the fact that their plans are piling on more debt to an already unprecedented legacy of borrowings.

Annual interest charges just to service a $310 billion total debt will reach $11 billion this year. This dollar deficit totals more than the Ontario government is spending on post-secondary education or social services.

Voters in Ontario (Toronto) ignore this fact as they continue to sluff it off as "NO NEWS FOR ME TO WORRY OVER".

THE QUESTION:

DID LIBERALS WIN THE ONTARIO ELECTION BY DEFAULT?

THE QUOTE:

"Sometimes negative news does come out, but it is often exaggerated and manipulated to spread scandal. Journalists sometimes risk becoming ill from coprophilia (A MARKED INTEREST IN FECES) and thus fomenting coprophagia (FEEDING ON DUNG), which is a sin that taints all men and women, that is, the tendency to focus on the negative rather than the positive aspects."
