THE MESSAGE:
The world is going to 'hell in a hand basket’. What does this metaphor imply? Is there truly a HELL? Is God vindictive or all merciful? Does God really use a hand basket? Well, Christians say that Jesus did.
In an effort to further my understanding, I found some interesting and current stories indicating a series of the desperate actions of some humans in Canada, Europe and the USA.
1. CANADIAN JAILBIRDS
Suspended Toronto jail guard Sukhpreet Singh, 24, faces charges for allegedly abetting her 32-year-old boyfriend, Tatum Ogden, by acting as his getaway driver during robberies. Now she is behind bars at the Vanier Centre for Women in Milton, Ontario.
Ogden befriended the 24-year-old beauty while serving time last year. He is charged with a dozen robberies including a break-in at Singh’s father’s Tandoori restaurant in Brampton. It gets worse!
He allegedly used a Jeep Wrangler owned by Singh’s mom in many of his holdups. Singh, by the way, is only accused of being involved in two of Ogden’s robberies.
The Toronto Raptors found themselves heading home for Game 3 needing a win rather desperately to make this a competitive series. What is on the horizon? Not looking so desperate now!
This follows a rather disappointing turn of events in the Toronto Maple Leaf’s run for hockey glory and an inauspicious start of the baseball season for the youthful but well-managed Toronto Blue Jays.
REALLY? If you think climate change is the most important issue facing Canada, would you be able to vote for the Green Party who have the most questionable and ill-thought-out ideas. How desperate are you? Keep in mind that if what the climate scientists are telling us is true, we are already unalterably on the path to catastrophic climate change. As John Cleese would say, “There is no hope! We are doomed”. Where is God?
How social is it? How much 'horth thyitt' does it allow? Christie Blatchford investigates an incident at Glenview Senior Public School in Toronto and is convinced that facts no longer matter in the recent hysteria surrounding a racism allegation at the school.
"When they come for you, whether it is with allegations of sexual assault or sexual harassment or even worse, anti-black racism, you are done like dinner.” In expressing her feelings, Christie finds that many social media coverages are limited and depressing. Whoever gets to social media first wins. I always agree with Christie.
5. TYPICAL SCIENCE BS
Canadians do cocaine and “totally” trust their dealers more than most other countries, according to a giant new report on global drug use. The Global Drug Survey 2019, led by Dr. Adam Winstock and his team in London, surveyed more than 130,000 people across 36 countries. They asked 1,960 Canadians how many days they used cocaine in the last 12 months.
Canada had the second-highest median number of days with 10. Canadians in the study reported using half a gram of cocaine, which matches the average worldwide. Do these stats add up?
Some of the study limitations included a very homogenous sample, with white people making up 86.9 per cent of respondents. The Global Drug Survey Team aims to expand its research into Asia and the Middle East. The respondents are not a nationally representative sample. This guy is desperate for attention!
6. MILITARY CONFLICT
The Trump administration has repeatedly voiced opposition to Maduro's power in Venezuela. It is suggested the United States could stage a military intervention to oust him.
Troops in the South American country took part in what was dubbed a “march of loyalty” to show their support for President Nicolas Maduro.
Desperate and parading military locals claim, "Only the ones who fight have a right to be. You will never invade my country. Listen to us small gringo. We are ready. With weapons in our hands … we are waiting for you."
7. MEN ARE SCARED OF WOMEN NOW
Some desperate new polls reveal that 60% of male managers report feeling “too nervous” about being accused of harassment to interact with women in the “common workplace”. Activities such as mentoring, socializing and one-on-one meetings have been affected.
That’s a 32% spike from 2018, with an additional 36% of men saying they now actively avoid women in junior-level positions — effectively chopping down their shot at climbing the corporate ladder.
“The vast majority of managers and senior leaders are men,” says Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook COO and founder of LeanIn.org, in a statement. “If they are reluctant even to meet one-on-one with women, there’s no way women can get an equal shot at proving themselves.”
8. DESPERATE MEASURES IN OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA
Police have arrested a California man they say falsely claimed that his 3-year-old daughter was abducted in a carjacking, triggering an Amber Alert
KTVU-TV reports that Oakland police say a man’s Mercedes was stolen Saturday — but the child was not inside. Investigators say the father lied about the girl’s disappearance because he thought authorities would help him recover his car faster.
The girl was actually with her mother at the time of the carjacking. Officials say the report of a missing child caused law enforcement to expend a huge amount of resources to find her. The father could face charges including filing a false report.
9.TEXTING IN NEW YORK
Texting while walking isn't only dangerous, but it could soon be a crime in New York. A new bill introduced by the desperate State Senate would make it illegal for people to cross streets in the state with their eyes glued to their smartphone. These days it's very common to see eyes on cell phone screens no matter where you are.
10. FORT WORTH, DEPRESSION TEXAS STYLE
Isaac Israel Warriner is in jail. A Denton man used a hacksaw to cut off his mother’s head in her apartment earlier this month before he fled to Oklahoma, according to Denton police. Would you call this depression? Her head was not found in or around the apartment, but a shopping cart containing various cleaning supplies was near the apartment. The warrant does not say if or where her head was found.
11. KISSING COWS IN EUROPE
What could be more depressing?
The practice has been slammed, with politicians and farming officials saying that it's creating a nuisance and could lead to people getting trampled to death by upset cows.
People in Switzerland, Germany and Austria have been encouraged to kiss cows for good causes "with or without tongues”. As a result people have been filmed wandering onto paddocks, approaching cows, before puckering up and smooching the confused animals. Tyrol’s state veterinary director said, “This is very dangerous; these animals must not be encountered in any way. Attacking unknown animals is irresponsible for self-protection and animal welfare.”
THE QUESTION:
How about a tongue sandwich?
THE QUOTE:
“Tongue sandwich? Eeww. I could never eat anything that comes from an animal's mouth. I’ll just have an egg sandwich.” unknown
THE LEMON:
Awarded to Tuukka Rask. Those ‘u’s in his first name are really horse shoes which he carries with him for every game!
