THE MESSAGE:
From where does suspicion originate? Does it come from a general and overreactive lack of trust? Are human being so protective of themselves that they imagine things as constant threats from everyone even family?
The concept of suspicion is commonly found in the philosophical writings of Freud, Marx and Nietzsche. They are referred to by scholars as the ‘Masters of Suspicion’.
Basically, they fight against the gods we have created in the modern ‘faiths of our world' and that is what they have in common. The three philosophers want to unmask the lies and illusions of our consciousness. They are preoccupied with a style of interpretation that precludes obvious or self-evident meanings in order to draw out more subtle and less flattering truths.
Some people today are naive and perhaps willing accepters of this theory. How can one know whether ‘suspicion’ is a good argument or a bad symptom? You just cannot know and that’s the problem of finding one's true self.
THE BLURB:
On our journey through life most of us began as simple believers in the values of our parents and their religions. We accepted friends on the basis of fun, common interests and trust. Some enemies became quite obvious.
As we grow, we are exposed to occasions where our trust and knowledge are replaced with interpretation and suspicion. We seem to be pre-occupied with the subtleties that crop up in our minds.
Our insecurities come to the fore and we develop the idea that blame or disapproval are being heaped upon us. It is imperative to realize that your suspicions can be eased by feelings of self confidence and worth. Give truth a chance.
Whenever trust disappears it can be replaced by thoughts of avoidance, reprisal or revenge directed at the perceived offender(s). It is understandable that love and friendship are the victims of such developments. Our soul is now filled with misunderstanding, dislike or even hatred and our ego is determined to avoid the causes.
THE QUESTION:
Why do some people harbour grudges?
THE LEMON:
Awarded to Kristyn Wong Tam, Toronto Councillor, who fails to seek the truth and instead suspects and interprets.
