THE MESSAGE:
I used to sit in my living room corner at the beach on Boston’s South Shore. I could see the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the tidal North River on the other. The ocean views were always awesome from day to day. The sea brought crashing waves and, at times, peaceful rolling ones. Sometimes it left a highway of pebbles on the beach and at others a stretch of beautiful sand. I marvelled at the power of the sea and the tranquility of the river. The river presented an ever-changing landscape. Nature prevailed and I paled to an insignificant onlooker.
The word inconvenience often came to mind. Many times we do not perform as we should because of inconvenience. The courageous person uses initiative, determination, and perseverance to overcome difficult challenges and make the right choices. The fortunate ones in our society have received assistance or support in the face of their struggles. Some people, without this loving support, have managed to persevere and overcome. These are the real heroes that we should look up to and admire.
The great Lou Gehrig said to the crowd on that special day in 1939 in his Farewell to Baseball Address at Yankee Stadium, “Today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth…..When you have a wife who has been a tower of strength and shown more courage than you dreamed existed … “
He also must have been predicting my life with my wife, Ann Marie. I have been blessed with an incredible family of 6 children and 16 grandchildren. They are my world and my hope.

Intruders, invaders and so-called rescuers of freedom often refer to ‘winning the hearts and minds of the people’ on whom they attempt to inflict their values and systems.
Some groups achieve a following through brainwashing young children to become suicide bombers or achieving desired outcomes with adults by force or threats.
Some politicians are more subtle. Their campaign produces TV ads of themselves with a minority family, trying to win support by creating the impression that they care more than the other guys. Thus they win the hearts, minds and votes of the gullible! DON’T BE A VICTIM!

As Frank sang, “Regrets, I’ve had a few, but then again….."
Upon reflection, I must say that teaching and coaching the students at Fenelon Falls Secondary school for 32 years was an honour and a privilege. They taught me much.

The fabulous staff over the years at Cable Cable makes me happy to say that they are fine examples of dedication, loyalty and humility. They have proven to be outstanding contributors to the local community.
