MANKIND IS DOING IT???; BLOG # 2160; FRI OCT 26, 2018

THE MESSAGE:
Father David Belyea

Recently I discovered an article written about Father David Belyea. It was put together by a dear old friend who quoted from the good father's obituary, “Father Belyea was greatly esteemed and admired by his students for the challenging and enthusiastic presentation of his lectures and rapport with his students.”

The friend of whom I speak is Mr. George Smith, who has taken the position that yours truly is not worthy of association or remembrance. We were never classmates or study mates but we played on the football team together. We became close friends and shared many good times together at U ofT. Today, George continues to ignore me but writes articles under the banner entitled 'Forever Young', which is published in the Northumberland News. Would that our present day association could follow this concept.

George goes on to say, "Back in the early 60s, I was a student in Father David Belyea’s Theology class at St. Michael’s College, at the University of Toronto. Anything but devout, I took that class only because I’d heard that Father Dave was a great lecturer. I wanted to be entertained and if it took a class in religion to do that, I was all for it." This declaration, from George, would match exactly the manner in which I conducted my own undergraduate years.

But I digress.

THE BLURB:

Father Belyea, at my invitation, attended one of the graduation exercises at Fenelon Falls Secondary School as the guest speaker. Needless to say his talk was memorable. As he had done in his lectures, Father Dave stressed the concept of 'Mankind's insignificance in the grand scheme of things"

Hence we arrive at the heart of the matter, man made global warming. One would think that Canadians are much too smart to be influenced by the big players in the U.S. who donate large sums of money to Canadian so-called charities, in order to help them protest against Alberta's 'dirty oil' and pipelines that invade their lands. By so doing they help to remove competition for their own fossil based enterprises.

Ask the Canadian provinces what they think of Trudeau's 'Carbon tax' efforts. Of course forget about British Columbia and Quebec who are led by the notion that pipe lines are unsafe. Here it is helpful to remind citizens of Quebec about the disaster of rail transport of oil at Lac-Megantic. Also to be remembered is that Vancouver is  a tad hypocritical for opposing carbon emissions while also being the continent’s largest coal port.
helicopter view of Lac-Mégantic derailment

Last year, then premier Christy Clark said that 6.2 million
tonnes of U.S. thermal coal passed through Vancouver ports in 2016.

The 'Greenhouse Gas' dilemma has stressed the evils of Carbon dioxide. These alarmists fail to mention the proliferation of Methane Gas generated by huge dairy and pig farms in the U.S. Methane Gas is far more deadly than Carbon Dioxide Gas.

Most Canadians would agree that our response to climate change needs to be scientifically sound, environmentally sustainable and financially realistic.  Today, the public discourse is driven by a myopic, ideological obsession with carbon emissions alone.

Data from the most recent report (2014) of the Global Carbon Project, which states that global human-induced CO2 emissions were 36 billion tonnes. Of that, 36 per cent stayed in the atmosphere, 27 per cent was absorbed by water, and 37 per cent was absorbed by land.

As you can see from these stats, not all CO2 emitted by people stays in the atmosphere. Much of it returns to the earth, mainly through the carbon absorption and sequestration power of plants, soil, and trees. The results have varied widely from year to year, depending on the level of forest fire or insect activity and mother nature.

Some argue that because Canada is not a large polluter of the atmosphere we must be a natural leader in the fight against other nations that pollute. Do you want to pay the bill for being a good teacher largely in vain? The United Nations Committee on Climate Change is a flawed effort to rectify a Global situation. Data is fudged and or submitted to favour the position of the reporting country. Why the world pays so much attention to the U.N. is to myself a large mystery. They should forget their BS campaign on climate and pay some heed to all the unfortunate citizens of the world who are largely ignored by dicktaters,  progressive liberals and the free press!

THE QUESTION:

Are you a 'Greenie'?

THE LEMON:

ELIZABETH MAY...OR MAY NOT

The Green Party isn’t like any other political party. Our mission is to rescue grassroots democracy from the political spin that makes voters recoil. Our goal is to make sure the planet and our communities survive and thrive.
