THINK ABOUT IT! BLOG # 2156; FRI SEP 28,2018

I lost my wife this week to cancer. She was my strength and my inspiration. It is a difficult time in my life and one that brings to light  some regretful failings and behaviours. She was always a loving and forgiving soul. I am lost without her!

THE MESSAGE:

MORAL DEVELOPMENT

Morality develops through communal effort. Some lead the way; others follow. In dictatorial communities there are no alternatives. In free societies there are many directives from many sources telling us to believe this but not that; to accept this and not that. Religions provide answers for some but not others.

THE BLOG:

TOLERANCE

A definition of tolerance states that it is an attitude of reasoned patience toward evil and a forbearance that restrains a person from showing anger or inflicting punishment. It is important to clarify the application of word Tolerance. It should apply only to the person, but never to the truth or reality being examined. For example, "the judge was tolerant of the lawyer's attitude." Intolerance applies only to the truth or reality, but never to the person. For example, "Intolerance of a certain culture is questionable."

Contrary to modern news reporting, the USA is suffering not so much from intolerance, which I define as bigotry. Rather it is from tolerance, which I define as indifference to truth or error. Too many just don't care. It is represented by a philosophical nonchalance that many mistake for broad-mindedness.

PRAYER

Some people go to church to pray for guidance and assistance in coping with the mess foisted on them by evils in our society. Others pray to give thanks for blessings.  Some never pray as they find it difficult to accept the fact that evil is often  seen to outweigh the good and they tend to question an ‘All-merciful’ God. The answer lies in every individual soul and is only revealed when a person subdues the ego, opens the heart and understands what it means to be truly free.

CHOICES

Experience and choices are at the front and centre of our existence. We all need ideals and standards to guide the way. Parents and families play a key role in teaching and accepting the norms of the society in which they subside. It is not difficult to love one's children. Difficulties arise when a child is unexpected, unwanted or not nurtured. Then everybody struggles.

THE NEW WAY?

Here are some questions that I found while searching for answers for schools in Ontario's struggle to keep up and modernize: Chuckle....or not.
  • Metaphorically, have the ‘Sands of Time’ mixed with the ‘Milk of Human Kindness’ and caused it to thicken and curdle?

  • Has the phrase ‘Good Things Happen to Those Who Wait’ been transformed into ‘The Quick and the Dead’?
SOMETIMES THE DEAD CAN BE MORE USEFUL
    THAN THE LIVING
  • Has ‘Hide and Seek’ become “That's mine"?
  • Have ‘Greed and Lust’ taken on the concepts ‘Need and Must’?

  • Has 'terror' rivalled 'prayer' in the quest for a better world?

DIFFERENCES

What makes one individual faster than another, or stronger or wiser or more just? Why are some born into riches while others suffer from the perils of poverty? Why does a young child require a life saving liver or heart transplant? Why does the diversity of race, culture or skin colour result in such fear, jealousy and hatred? Why do some choose evil over goodness? How do we solve the two greatest mysteries of our existence? “Man’s inhumanity to his fellow man” and “Man’s insignificance in the grand scheme of things” .

THE QUESTION:

Is it all just blowing in the wind?  When will we ever learn?

THE LEMON:

The House Judiciary Committee approved four articles of impeachment against President Clinton, accusing him of lying under oath, obstructing justice and abusing his presidential power. TRUMP THAT!

THE QUOTE:

"When I was in England I experimented with marijuana a time or two -- and didn't like it -- and didn't inhale and never tried inhaling again." BILL CLINTON
