BLOG NUMBER 54, NOV. 16, 2012; new CFL

THEME: THE NEW CFL

DATE: Nov 16, 2012

THE CONCEPT:
If we are to have a truly Canadian game, why not make the CFL truly Canadian? The Canadian Football League produces exciting games but could be much better. There could be 4 Conferences, each with 5 teams :
·    EAST: Halifax, St Johns NB, Quebec City, Montreal & Ottawa
·    CENTRAL: Hamilton, Toronto, Mississauga, North York & London
·    WEST: Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, Regina, Sudbury & Windsor
·    PACIFIC: Calgary, Edmonton,Vancouver, Surrey, Victoria, & Nanaimo

Team rosters would be restricted to a maximum of 3 imports in order to keep team salaries as low as possible. All travel costs would be borne by the League, which would have substantial leverage due to the number of games being played. The season would be expanded to allow for a longer schedule and a playoff format. More games equal more revenue for the League.

Player reps and Unions would be replaced by a system of independent arbitration. Team Salary Caps and Individual Salary Caps would be in place. The League would own all franchises and CFL stock would be listed and sold to the general public.

There would be larger gates due to the higher number of teams. A revenue sharing plan would be put in place to incorporate TV Revenues, Advertising Revenues and Gate Revenues.

The playing rules should be modified to adopt the NFL style kicking game and scoring formats. All other rules for the CFL would remain in place.

The new CFL would give College and University Athletes an opportunity to play pro sports. This would create more interest in the college/university game.

QUESTION:  How would you modify this proposed new CFL?
