Newspapers
everywhere carry stories daily on the evils to which little babies and children
are subjected. Some are slaughtered in countries, with power mongers as dictators,
who revel in their self-satisfying ideologies and resort to indiscriminate
shelling of civilian neighborhoods. Even
in our “enlightened world” of today many become the victims of ethnic cleansing
and tribal wars.
Others
die in natural disasters, which are seemingly beyond our control. However, many could have been spared through
better planning, preparation and care. Flood, earthquake and tornado shelters
and fire early warning systems should be an integral part of houses and public
buildings in cities and communities.
Still
others are murdered in the name of family honor or traditions. Disobedience to
one’s father is rewarded by death. Girl babies are not considered valuable in
some cultures and are either given away or beaten to death.
In some
Canadian neighborhoods, many single mothers have babies to increase their
welfare payments. The children have no fatherly role model and grow up in the
streets under the influence of gangs, drugs, guns, sex and violence. They
ignore the rules of a society that has rejected them and form their own
families, rules and culture.
